From ESS News China aims to install more than 100 GW of new energy storage – primarily battery storage, excluding pumped hydro – by 2027, according to a new action plan presented by authorities on Friday.
The move is part of China's broader push toward a green, low-carbon energy transition as well as high-quality economic and social development. It builds on significant growth in the sector. As of the end of 2024, the country's installed capacity of new-type energy storage had reached 73.76 million kilowatts, according to official data.
New-type energy storage, such as electrochemical energy storage and hydrogen storage, is poised to drive China's broader energy system transformation, alongside economic benefits, powering the nation's economic engine and ushering in an era of unprecedented energy independence and sustainability, they said.
