Kilowatts (kW) show power, which means how fast a device uses energy. Kilowatt-hours (kWh) show energy, which means the total amount of energy used. For example, a heater with 2 kW power running for 3 hours uses 6 kWh of energy. Always check if the number is for power (kW) or energy (kWh).
Energy use is usually measured in kilowatt-hours. To calculate energy in kWh, use the formula: Energy (kWh) = Power (kW) × Time (hours). For example, if you have a 10 kW solar battery system running for 1 hour, you would use 10 kWh of energy.
There, the kilowatt figure shows how much energy it can generate from sunlight. A solar system with an output of 7 kW can therefore provide 7 kW at once. But that is not enough. Because the maximum power and thus the size of the PV system is specified in “kWp”, i.e., kilowatt peak.
