View moreIn 2000 the Port of Gothenburg was the first port to introduce a high-voltage onshore power supply for cargo vessels. Prior to creation of this high-voltage connection the port already offered (and still offers) low-voltage shoreside electricity from as early as 1989 to three passenger/RoRo vessels (ROPAX).
Project implementation: 2022/2023. Completion: During Q1 2024 the first tanker will be connected to a green shoreside power supply at the Energy Terminal. The Gothenburg Port Authority is currently investing around SEK 600 million in carbon mitigation measures in a concerted effort to achieve the port’s climate goal by 2030.
The port already has shore power facilities at its Ro-Ro, Ro-Pax, and Energy terminals. Magnus Nordfeldt, Head of Business Area Cargo at the Port of Gothenburg, stated: “This transformer station is an important milestone that brings us significantly closer to shore-side power connection for container and car/RoRo vessels.
The Port of Gothenburg in Sweden has advanced its sustainability efforts by awarding a contract to AF Bygg Väst, a division of AF Gruppen Sweden, to construct a transformer station for its container and car/RoRo terminals. Valued at approximately €11.4 million, the project is set to begin in Q2 2025 and conclude by March 2027.
