View moreDefinition Solar inverters are power electronic devices whose core function is to convert the DC power generated by solar panels into standard AC power. GCIs convert variable direct current (DC) power from renewable sources into alternating current (AC) power suitable for grid consumption .
Grid-tied inverters are used to convert the DC power generated by the PV system into AC power suitable for grid connection. According to the application scale and structural characteristics, grid-tied inverters can be further subdivided into centralized inverters, string inverters and micro-inverters.
Aside from the modes of operation, grid-connected inverters are also classified according to configuration topology. There are four different categories under this classification. Central inverters, which are usually around several kW to 100 MW range. String inverters, typically rated around a few hundred Watts to a few kW.
